Chef Bobby started with us running our grill menu, but his strong work ethic, dedication to quality food and knife skills quickly escalated him to also train for sushi under our 9 year sushi chef Rich Kuk. The reins were handed down and now Bobby oversees all aspects of our sushi bar and the grill, and maintains the high level of quality we strive for with all of our food at SakiTumi. Bobby has a great cast of additional chefs that all work together to provide you with the best experience possible at SakiTumi.
SakiTumi is one of the ONLY restaurants in the greater Columbia area that orders fresh tuna loins almost daily. Fresh tuna has a deep, garnet color. Frozen tuna, injected with CO2 and cryovac sealed, displays a fluorescent pink color. We invite you to come try our sushi selection and see the difference quality can make.
With our full-service bar, you have a wide selection of creative and classic cocktails, and extensive wine list and over 15 craft beers on tap. We also have three large screen TV's behind the bar showing sports and great music videos.
SakiTumi features 3 large tables in addition to a semi-private room that holds up to 12 people. Please call the restaurant or use Open Table for reservations.
The Dupree Building, on the historic register of SC, was home to a Ford Dealership (front of the building, facing US Highway 1). The back of the building, now home to SakiTumi, was a garage where workers would assemble Model T Fords, then roll them through big garage bay doors into the showroom on US Highway 1 (Gervais St). Inside SakiTumi, you can still see the bricked-up garage bay doors just under our two huge custom-made sushi paintings behind the bar. Enjoy having your dinner in a classic garage!
Directly behind SakiTumi, you'll find a parking lot with 12 spaces. There is ample parking on Lincoln Street and surrounding roads. Meters are not enforced on weekends or after 6:30pm.
*If you are charged by private company for parking, bring your ticket in and we will be happy to deduct this amount from your dinner bill.
SakiTumi is a local, independently owned restaurant, and has been since it's inception in November of 2006. Dave Shaw, owner, is a Journalism graduate of the University of South Carolina and is also involved in Advertising and Real Estate. We hope you will enjoy SakiTumi as much as we have, and we welcome you to our incredible network of family & friends. Good food may create a restaurant, but great people keep it going.
SakiTumi partners with Open Table for online reservations. You may also call the restaurant (after 3pm) at 803-622-3257 or contact us via email.
Since we opened in 2006, we made a commitment to bring in only high quality, fresh food. We routinely have fresh tuna overnighted from Hawaii, the only beef product we bring in is Kobe beef for our burger and tenderloin filet for everything else. Our food items are made fresh in house, and we only offer salt & pepper shakers upon request (because our food comes out so flavorful already). We also make almost all of our sauces in house, fresh every week. Sushi rice is made daily, and whatever is left at the end of the night is tossed. We believe in the difference quality makes.
If you have a good experience at SakiTumi, we please welcome you to leave us a review on Google or Facebook. All too often, positive experiences go unnoticed in the realm of online reviews.
Yelp is a company based off of fraud and business tactics that would have other companies disbanded and involved in lawsuits. We refuse to support this company in any way. We will not respond to reviews, and simply put, we do not ever visit our page on Yelp.
We’ve been operating as a small, locally owned restaurant in Columbia since November of 2006. We take great pride in seeing friends, customers, employees, and family grow over the years, and have witnessed everything from engagements in the restaurant, to baby showers (couples who met at SakiTumi!) to famous celebrities dining with us. We hope you will become a part of our family as well, and we look forward to many more years of serving you good food and good times :).
