Our Chef, Manager and Staff

Rich Kuk, managing partner & head chef, has been with SakiTumi since 2010. His fine detail on food preparation, ordering and sushi skills are nothing short of amazing. Jimmy Waters,  managing partner, ensures the front of house runs smooth as silk and has been with us since 2011. Alex Salcedo is our Sunday brunch chef responsible for one of the best Sunday brunches in Columbia. Patrick Fowler is our Sunday brunch bartender/manager, and is responsible for some super delicious breakfast cocktails.

Flavorfull Grill: More Than Just Sushi

Saki is a fusion restaurant so half of our menu contains amazing, flavorful grill items. Try our famous Kobe burger, our Saki-Salmon, Lobster Wontons and more. We also only order two kinds of beef: Filet Tenderloin and Kobe ground beef. So anything that you receive from SakiTumi is using only the highest quality of product you will find.

Sushi: Fresh Fish Delivered Daily

SakiTumi is one of the ONLY restaurants in the greater Columbia area that orders fresh tuna loins almost daily. Fresh tuna has a deep, garnet color. Frozen tuna, injected with CO2 and cryovac sealed, displays a fluorescent pink color. We invite you to come try our sushi selection and see the difference quality can make.

Creative & Classic Cocktails

With our full-service bar, you have a wide selection of creative and classic cocktails, and extensive wine list and over 15 craft beers on tap. We also have three large screen TV's behind the bar showing sports and great music videos.

Large Parties? No Problem.

SakiTumi features 4 large tables in addition to a semi-private room that holds up to 12 people. There is no cost to reserve these rooms. Call the restaurant after 2pm at 803-931-0700.

about the building

Assembling Model T-Fords

The Dupree Building, on the historic register of SC, was home to a Ford Dealership (front of the building, facing US Highway 1). The back of the building, now home to SakiTumi, was a garage where workers would assemble Model T Fords, then roll them through big garage bay doors into the showroom on US Highway 1 (Gervais St). Inside SakiTumi, you can still see the bricked-up garage bay doors just under our two huge custom-made sushi paintings behind the bar. Enjoy having your dinner in a classic garage!

Parking

Directly behind SakiTumi, you'll find a parking lot with 12 spaces. We also offer FREE valet parking on Friday & Saturday nights, and there is ample parking on Lincoln Street and surrounding streets. Meters are not enforced on weekends or after 6:30pm.

*If you are charged by private company for parking, bring your ticket in and we will be happy to deduct this amount from your dinner bill.

Thank You for Supporting Local

SakiTumi is a local, independently owned restaurant, and has been since it's inception in November of 2006. Dave Shaw, owner, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and is also involved in Advertising and Real Estate. We hope you will enjoy SakiTumi as much as we have, and we welcome you to our incredible network of family & friends. Good food may create a restaurant, but great people keep it going.

Reservations & call aheads

Dinner: SakiTumi does take reservations for groups of 6 or more. Reservations must be taken over the phone (803-931-0700) and a 20% gratuity will be added to the table. You must have the majority of your group present to be seated.

Anything less than 6 people, we can take a call ahead. Call ahead seating reduces your wait time but does not guarantee a table upon arrival.

Sunday Brunch: no reservations or call aheads. We have plenty of seating usually there is very little or no wait.

Our food quality

Since we opened in 2006, we made a commitment to bring in only high quality, fresh food. We routinely have fresh fish overnighted, the only beef product we bring in is Kobe beef for our burger and tenderloin filet for everything else. Our food items are made fresh in house, and we only offer salt & pepper shakers upon request (because our food comes out so flavorful already). We also make almost all of our sauces in house, fresh every week. Sushi rice is made daily, and whatever is left at the end of the night is tossed. We believe in the difference quality makes.

We welcome reviews from Google & Facebook

If you have a good experience at SakiTumi, we please welcome you to leave us a review on Google or Facebook. All too often, positive experiences go unnoticed in the realm of online reviews.

We do not, in any way, support YELP

Yelp is a company based off of fraud and business tactics that would have other companies disbanded and serving jail time. We refuse to support this company in any way. We will not respond to reviews, and simply put, we do not ever visit our page on Yelp.

Keeping Columbia fresh since 2006

We’ve been operating as a small, locally owned restaurant in Columbia since November of 2006. We take great pride in seeing friends, customers, employees, and family grow over the years, and have witnessed everything from engagements in the restaurant, to baby showers (couples who met at SakiTumi!)  to famous celebrities dining with us. We hope you will become a part of our family as well, and we look forward to many more years of serving you good food and good times :).
